She was born, then…
Kim Thomas was raised the daughter of a Naval Officer. This opportunity took her around the globe, building and sourcing an active imagination.
Before the Navy, her Dad was also a cartoonist who worked to put himself through college. Her grandfather was an artist, great grandfather had a tattoo shop, and great great grandfather had a fireworks warehouse. She was bound to be creative in some way.
She has shown her artwork by invitation in selected solo and group exhibitions over the last 20 years. Her pieces are in private collections nationwide, and she has been represented by Nashville, Chicago and New Orleans galleries. Her work can be seen on the cover of cd’s, books and magazines, and was featured on stage with the Getty’s SING! An Irish Christmas tour in national concert halls (ie The Kennedy Center, Atlanta's Fox Theatre, and The Kimmel Center).
Kim is also the author of 5 books, and for 19 years, she and husband Jim travelled nationally as celebrated songwriters and performers.
In 2014, Kim graduated summa cum laude from Covenant Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Theological Studies. This, and her creative soul helped prepare her to serve as Curate for The Village Chapel in Nashville, TN, the church she and Jim (Senior Pastor) founded in 2011.
Recently, she has renewed her time in the studio after a hiatus tending sheep in the amazing community at The Village Chapel. Whether Nihonga, Mixed Media or Encaustic, the quiet process is an engagement of materials and mind, and there is almost always a story that goes with the abstract painting left behind on the board or canvas. Thus the abstract narratives.
